I was @ Voyager Rock this past weekend...Good times and plenty of fish for the kids.

Water level is low and muddy when the wind blows and stirs all the silt/muck up.

I'm leaving Friday morning to Voyager Rock then Dusy Creek for the Dusy run so we might cross paths.

I'll be in this...

If you are heading in for only 1 night, then camp at Thompson Lake and then back out. You get to experience Chicken Rock, great views looking back at Courtright, the fun climb up Thompson hill, and also the option of a morning hike to Lost Lake.
You could come in from the Kaiser end and camp at Ershim, which is also a good option that features the White Bark gatekeeper (at times can be pretty nasty) and the Parking Lot In The Sky, which is a vista of the back side of Yosemite National Park from over 10,000 ft elevation. The pavement drive up to Kaiser Pass does however take more time and fuel than the drive to Courtright.
I can't decide which end I like better, north or south, they both have their own great features.

The basic south-to-north approach that we do is to drive up to Courtright in the morning (or camp at the trail head at Voyager), head in to Thompson Lake for the first night, then head to Knights Camp for the second night (this is just north of Ershim lake), and then be out to Kaiser Pass by noon. Depending on the size of the group we sometimes push for Lakecamp the second night which will get us back home about 2 hours sooner.

We took a group of about 10 through (half were first-timers) and including stops, here is approximately how long it took us:
Pavement at Courtright to Thompson Lake:   7.5 hours
Thompson Lake to East Lake:3 hours
East Lake to Ershim Lake:2.75 hours
Ershim Lake to Lakecamp:3.5 hours
Lakecamp to Parking Lot In The Sky:1 hour
Parking Lot In the Sky to end of trail:1.5 hours

When I had 35s I've gone in by myself in the dark from pavement to Thompson in about 4 hours. So these times you could probably reduce by about 75% if you are in a small fast moving group and don't take any breaks.

But honestly, this trail exists to showcase God's majesty in my opinion. It is so beautiful if you are in a hurry then you shouldn't be here. I say this, but at the same time its hard getting four days to spend here, so I'm usually rushed through the trail anyway. I'd love to spend an entire week here, it would be bliss.

Regards,
BigMike

I've heard bad stories about hot rod engines at elevation and on inclines.

When that was a more popular build they would clog up Thompsoon Hill because they couldn't keep them running.

thats where we saw a couple jeepers and i bet thats what happen when he lost his coil to mr. thompson when he stalled and could keep the idle up.  we pass by and offer help but they refuse cause we were in yotas and didnt have their parts. :usa:
