Just mapped out the mileage, looks to be @ 1250 miles each way so 2500 miles round trip.  Divide that by 13 (approximate mileage I get towing) and multiply by 4 (average price of diesel per gallon) put me at $770 for just diesel and 21 hours of driving each direction.  :yikes: :yikes: :yikes:

Since this will be my first time at the Con, I'm guessing it would be wise to jump into a group.  Do most groups head out Friday from the Loon Lake side?

Is there any truck/trailer parking near Hwy 50 and Ice House Rd?  I don't really want to drive to Placerville to drop off the truck/trailer just to back track in the 4Runner.

I did see this thread from 2010 that helps out since Air Randy was coming from CO as well.

Do most people drive back out the same way they came in or continue on the trail out near Lake McKinney?
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated since I'm a Rubicon newb  :haha:

If you are comfortable driving your 4runner on the street I would suggest that you find a hotel in south lake tahoe (I know the motel 6 had be accepting of leaving a tow rig and trailer in the parking lot). Stage the truck and trailer there on your way in then drive the 4runner down 50 and go in from Loon lake. Exit out cadilac hill and head to the hotel to get a good night sleep before your long drive home.

Friday and thursday are the popular days to head in. I like to arrive to loon lake area thursday evening then start in on the trail friday morning. You are more then welcome to join me on the trail. Regardless I highly suggest you make the drive.

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.  I'm going to have to plan for it next year.  I just had shoulder surgery and am out for 6-8 weeks.

That is a bummer. But you do not want to skimp on the recovery time.
