Ive looked around on some boards but I can't find out how to make the steering shaft work for the crossover steer. Its like 3"s away from the rag joint. It loks like it should slip but it wont or do I need some force to move it. :headscratch:

Hey Stomper
Some have a fiber pin through the two pieces of the slip shaft  you might have to drill this out   Lynn

Hyena

They have like 2 plastic pins that go through both pieces.  You can either drill them out or hit the bigger part off with a hammer.  they should break allowing you to slip the shafts on and off.

Well I took the shaft out and it has 2 roll pins in it. I knocked them out and it's still not moving. I soaked it down with PB Blaster and I guess i'll try again in the morn.

WOOOO HOOOOO I GOT IT!!!!!!
All I got now is a weird poping sound comming from the front end when I trun the wheels. I got my wife to turn the wheel while I looked and I couldn't tell where it's comming from. Im guessing ball joints settleing in.  :dunno:

My friend has the same thing on his toy.  He doesn't know were it is coming from either.  He has had it for awhile.

Get a shaft out of an IFS 4x4 truck/4runner and it will fit right in, that way you wont have to mess with the pins ect.
I had the same issue and got the IFS one and BAM, no more issues with fit.

I got the shaft taken care of but the poping is driving me crazy. I wish I could find where it's comming from.

Does anyone else have a problem with frame flex and crossover steer? Ive got a poping noise when the wheels are on the ground. Also the frame is flexing  a good bit its ok when the wheels are off the ground.

MidgetMike

Are both sides of your sleeve welded I had a buddy how only welded the sleeve on the outside of the frame and it started popping. also make sure the tie rod ends are tight  :dunno:

Yea its not flexing there. Im talking about from the front of the rails all the way back to the shackles on both sides. Its like the crossmembers are not doint there jobs. Its flexing so bad I can see it in the motor mounts.

MidgetMike

wow I don't know, you can't find a crack. I broke the front crossmember broke all the factory welds on the drivers side had to pull my bumper to find it.

The toyota frame do flex, but if you are talking about all the way to the shackle, some something aint right.  Check the whole length of the front frame for crackes, top to bottom.

derek

its your leaf springs popping. the crossover changes the side to side load and your springs will pop because the crossover pushes the axle sideways some. mine have been doing it since i went crossover a few years ago.
made me worry until i figured out what it was.
you can take the springs apart and grease them or paint with graphite paint to make them slip past eachother easier, but its not a permenant fix.

Hey Derek thanks for that post. I think that may be allot of it. I got out there this morn and I greased the shackles and rechecked the tightness of the ball joints. I also checked the front U bolts and they where not as tight as they should be. I moved the wheels back and forth and its not as bad now but still there. Also no weight on the front end = no noise ans as long as I'm moving it doesn't do it either. So I may run it a little and just keep an eye out for anything out of the ordinary

U-bolts should be torqued to 90ftlbs
