Nor-cal go-fast guy learning to go slow with a 1st gen
« on: Jun 21, 2012, 08:29:18 PM »
Name's Ryan, from Folsom CA. 18 years old, going to Sac State, work at a welding shop and pizza place.
Very brief life story..

I've always been a go-fast guy.
Got a '71 f250 from my neighbor when I was 12.... over the course of 5 years and several minimum wage jobs I turned it into an offroad racing truck.

That was fun... But being a college kid and such... couldn't afford to race it and use it how it should be used. Raced it a few times and then traded for a very nice, well built land rover.

Had a blast in that, but was always scared of rolling it and i came very close, way too many times. Aluminum body and a very nice roll cage/interior... if i rolled it, i would have to part it out, and the roll cage work would go to waste. So I sold it for $9k.

So here we are... been talking to the owner of this '79 for sale, went and looked at it, and picking it up tomorrow or Saturday. Already planning on taking it through the rubicon next weekend

And just for fun, here's my other truck.
Combined a few trucks to make this.
Started with a '69 f100 2wd... restored it frame-off. Before it was even done i decided i wanted a 4x4 so bought a '72 f250 4x4 and used the chassis. Again, restoring it frame-off. Then wanted a cummins so i managed to buy a Cummins and drove it around for a month then swapped the drivetrain into my truck. Then I lost all gears while on a trail in Mormon Emigrant, so right now this truck is torn apart and I am building a new transmission with all the fancy parts.

Anyways... I have lots of plans already for the '79. I'll be sure to make a thread for updates!

Welcome from down in the Valley

That 79' is tits..guy built it and NEVER wheeled it..I've seen his post a few times on CL.
I believe he has a build on Pirate..maybe on here too.

If I was willing to pull a loan out on a wheeler(which I never would), that'd be the truck I'd want..
