rear window key 4runner

  anybody know how the rear key works on an 86 4runner. i assume the ignition key is supposed to run the rear window downfrom the outside. how much play is in the lock.i'm just trying to figure out if the key doesn't work or the lock is frozen. how much does the key move.. i found a 96 cousel switch that i got to work for the rear window. now i'm trying to get it to open from the outside. it's not the original ignition key. and my door key is from an 85 from the salvage yard.

The ignition key should make the window work.  To open, the key should turn to about 2 o'clock and to close, the key should turn to about the 10 o'clock position.  I have to wiggle mine sometimes to get it to turn.  Roger Brown has a good trouble shooting write up for the rear window.

after that works you have to unlock the rar door to open it each time after the window is down

  the doors are from an 85' non-power. would this have anything to do with it.
