Before you flame the newbie, I searched. :help:  I am going to put a set of tube doors on my 85 4 Runner. I really liked my tube doors on my old rig:

I did see the Marlin doors, but I was wondering if a stock latch could be used (like on the Sami) instead of a pin:
On the Sami we used a stock latch and welded a small washer on the mechanism. One push with the thumb, the door opened and slam it shut, no pin to loose.

I' m sure you could devise something.  I had a buddy who fabbed his own tube doors, then welded on a gravity latch from a gate as his latch.he welded the little arm into the door jamb, and put the latch itslef on the door.  It worked until he rolled it, then the latch popped open and he trashed the pass. side door

I really like the latch on AOR's doors, they dont use a nail, they use a lever.

Here is another picture from the build. If you squint, you can see the washer/lever near the custom "bucket seat"  :gap:
I haven't had the chance to look at a Toyota latch yet. Is there anything about the stock latch that would create a problem? Those AOR doors are sweet.

Another one of my half done projects.

But I am using a bicycle brake handle attached to some junkyard door latch assembilys. Much smoother than those pins.

WHere the pin goes in is pretty open so if you are good with fab work I am sure you rig up some sort of lever/latch/thing
