Im starting to move forward again on my project. Its a 1988 single cab and is in fairly good condition as the hood and fenders are brand new. The only bad spot is the roof which is suffering from rust pitting. I threw a quick coat of rust stopping primer on it a while back but I wanted to really get in there and get rid of it before I painted over it. Was looking to paint it with roll on Rustoleum Blue Hammertone. Whats the best way to stop the rust though?

I was thinking of sanding the roof down a little then use a little bit of that navel jelly stuff to eat it a little. Then a real quick skim coat of bondo just to even everything out and sand that down. Then a nice coat of spray paint. Obviously Im using a rattle can or roll on paint so Im not looking for spectacular paint job but presentable.

What do you guy think?

I used por-15 on mine where there was rust. The only thing is you have to make sure you prep the area well before you apply it. As long as you take the time to prep it well and use some kind of rust prohibitive paint/primer you should be fine.
