I've never had issue with spacers, I've had them on a lot of different rigs. Make sure you keep an eye on the knuckle studs too. Usually painted arms and cone washers don't mix well...

Nice build and clean truck.

Whoa! :scared: That's no good, glad you didn't get injured.

In the past I have used fingernail polish for all my DD wheel spacers with zero issues. Impacting the manure out of them is more than likely where things went wrong. The torque specs are under 85 ft. lbs. (check a manual for the correct torque numbers). If you use a torque wrench it will allow for an even torque on all those itty-bitty studs.

Over torquing a stud usually stretches it and makes it untrustworthy. I recommend new studs with proper torque specs and lock tight and you should be good

I DD my junk with wheel spacers and have never had problems with them. They have been on my truck over two years. I think your problem was you used an impact gun and did not torque them evenly.

+1 on not torquing them down correctly.  i have had mine on for a while now and tons of wheeling trips. all i did was torque them down to 80ft lbs.

BigMike

Holy crap that's crazy! Great looking truck and cool build, sucks on the wheel spacer issue!

Definitely make sure to not only torque the wheel spacers, but all four wheels properly. Torque the nuts at the wheel spacer to 85 ft-lbs, and torque your steel wheels to 75 ft-lbs (for those running aluminum wheels, I recommend 85 ft-lbs).

I also highly recommend double checking the torque on everything again after the first few trips. After you've double checked it two or three times I'd call it good. Repeat this process whenever you remove one or the other (wheels or wheel spacers).

In my opinion, never use thread lock on your wheel spacers and/or wheel lug nuts. This is incorrect, unsafe, and Toyota does not recommend to do this. I say it is unsafe, especially in the case of the wheel spacer lug nuts, because the nuts will settle into the wheel spacer and your steel wheel over time and you'll need to retorque them as mentioned above. If you use thread lock, then the lug will be locked to the stud, and as the nut wears into the softer aluminum wheel spacer, you won't be able to close the gap by "checking the torque" since the loctite will give your torque wrench an extremely high artificial reading.

It's not something I wanna mess with, for safety sake of myself and others on the road, so I make sure this is done right on my rig.

Truck looks really good i like the low stance and that thing is freaking clean!! i remember those days .

I agree with Big mike. Also i don't recommend using a impact on the studs to snug yes torque no. I have ran wheel spacers on multiple trucks and have actually sold plenty of sets and never actually seen that happen before. I know you are looking into the ifs hub swab that is a great way also if you are looking to keep the spacers and want more thread engagement i know it is very little for the amount of engagement on the spacers to hub there are lug nuts that go into the spacer another 1/4 inch to allow more engagement.
