rubicon axles any good

bought a rubicon last march for my wife. it got stolen, rolled, and burned. i think i can still salvage the axles. what should i look for in the axles to make sure they are ok. i'd like to get them all working and put them under my 86 4runner. any ideas on a solution for steering.

well, you would also need to figure out 1) how to get the driver's side differential in front to hook up to the passenger-side output of the Toyota T-case, 2) how you plan on widening them to be approximately the same width as the stock Toyota axles, 3) how you would change the axleshafts to 6-lug from 5-lug.

Best bet would be to sell the axles to someone with either a YJ, XJ or a TJ that wants to upgrade their axles, and doesn't want a D60FF. just my

i'm a pipe welder by trade, would it be possible to cut the tubes and move the pumpkin to the proper side. i can't think of anything that would be a problem.

Yes that is possable its done all the time. Im sure you could also find some D44 c's and mount some flattop knuckles to run a hysteer setup. You can also get some 6 lug spindles to mach the Toy stuff. The only big problem I see would be widening it it can be done but custom shafts would be $$$.

how much wider do the axles have to be. aren't they allready wider then the toyotas

no they are shitty axles, the rear is like a dana 35c or something, basically a stick of butter with axles stuck in  them

rubicon axles:

rear: dana 44.  just a typical run of the mill d44 with a crappy 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern.
front: dana 30 with 44 center.  they call it a 44, but  everything outside the housing is a dana 30 just like any other.

the only redeeming value is the lockers, but i don't how how good they are

I have seen rubicons with both ARB's and electric lockers.  Don't know what kind of electric lockers.

They already are wider.But I wouldn't recomend doing it,but hey,you have to build with what you alredy have.

the jeep rubicon utilzies a dana 44 rear end strong for a jeep on 31's. the front is a dana 44 with dana 30 outers which is the problem with dana 30's in the first place. the lockers are pneumatic lockers engaged by an electric air compresser mounted under the body along the left frame rail. and yes i am a toyota guy i just wheel with jeeps
