Lift From Stock Torsion Bars
« on: Feb 18, 2005, 08:20:06 PM »
I heard that some of the GM trucks that run torsion bars could be adjusted to get an inch or 2 of lift on the front end from the bars, ya know just enough to level the truck.  Anybody know if the toyotas with torsions bars can benefit from a similar adjustment?

A buddy of mine lifted the front of his 87 runner by cranking the torsion bars up. I dont know exactly how much lift he gained though.hope this helps ya out

the most i would crank it up is an inch, if that. it wont ride the same either. i have after market sway-a-way torsion bars in mine cranked up an inch an a quarter and it rides like :pokinit:.

I guess cranking up the torsion bars makes the suspension a lot stiffer, huh?

It changes the angle of ure a-arms and makes the ride not so fun, but i got some sway-a-ways and lifted mine about an inch

Like others have said, about an inch, maybe 1.5.  Switch to manual hubs if you want to keep your CV boots for long.  Alternatively, you can go with ball joint spacers for 1.5 inch lift.

For the best ride stick with the stock tbars.  Aftermarket bars will make your ride way too stiff and are only needed if you have a heavy bumper and winch.

Well, if the ideal of excluding the lesser equipped (stock or otherwise) is accepted... there is no fundamental difference between that and a Sierra CLub ideal of exclusion. If we cannot embrace the 4wheel users as a whole. We are not fighting for access. I cannot be that shortsighted
