« on: Jan 26, 2012, 08:24:12 AM »
Hello I got newbie question for ya! I am going to be using the Sky hangar kit and using RUF's. My question is will my stock 4runner springs be ok or will they e too sagged from carrying the hard top it's whole life. The rear of the truck does sit lower than the front by about an inch or so. :help:

Not to sound dense.....but when you add some springs too it, are these extra springs coming from another rear leaf packs? Does the extra leaf packs have to be from a 4x4 or will 2WD spring pack work?

a 5 pack even seems a little soft but it all dpends on your springs and the spring rate just make sure the sides match. and ur guna wanna weld a 3/8" spacer on drivers side perch

Lots of good info at above link... I am working on a current build but not to that stage yet. But it just sounds like you just do what works best for you using trial and error.

its almost going to be impossible to get this right on the first try. Even if you copy the springs exactly as someone else who had already done a ruf (and what ever springs in the rear) swap. you springs have had different loads and use than their springs have. so they for ovious reasone sit different. its all trial and error here. and may take a few time to get the truck to sit right.

What i suggest is if you have a rear pack in mind. do your rear swap first. then build your ruf packs to match.  when you add springs stagger the legnths down in legnth from the longest being the main.

hope this helps

I'm going to use f-150's in the rear. That's a really good idea on mounting the read first..I have no idea why I didn't think of that. I will be picking up some springs in that JY this weekend for the rear so I will pickup some extra's for the RUF.

I've  built plenty of these junkyard spring packs using 4x4 Toyota rears as the main springs (the ones with the eyelets) and have 3 pieces of advise.  1.  Have plenty of donor springs laying around so that you can add leaves as they settle.  2.  never have 2 springs with the same length touching one another, they will create a stress riser on the next spring (this will be the next longer leaf) and cause it to bend right where the 2 adjacent springs stop.  3.  Always use clamps that wrap around the majority of the pack, the lowest 2 leaves don't always need to be wrapped, but it won't hurt.  If you want leaf spring set up tips in general I just wrote a quick how to here...http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=87513.msg994939#msg994939
