shackles kicked out
« on: Oct 29, 2011, 01:24:03 PM »

Its hard to tell from the pic but the inside shackle is kicked out. Has anyone had this problem before? My problem is when i hit a bumb my truck rocks side to side and thought this could be caused by this which causes the front suspension to cycle sideways. The top of the shackles measure 4" Id. and the bottom measure 4 1/4" id. My spacers all measure 3/4. What are your thoughts?

I have had my shackle bolts come loose on my TG front lift causing death wobbles. I have also had all of my bushing go bad after one run. The quality of the bushing is CRUD. I ordered new bushings because they claim that the new ones dont have that problem, we will see.
If it is rocking I would hazard to guess shocks, possibly steering geometry. Not sure if the shackle will cause the problems you are having.
Is it a rocking like on a boat? or a lateral shift as if the body slides from east to west while the tires stay planted?

It rocks like a boat from passenger to driver side. I have replaced shocks and changed the rear shocks to a more straight up and down position, tried running dual shocks and nothing helps. I just changed the front bushing because mine were toast. It seems to be from the spacers, when you tighten them and the suspension cycles the spacers cut the bushings. Im thinking of switching over to a offset shackle. Not sure if it will help my problem

Looks to me that the frame tubes are not long enough, make a spacer for the top to shim it over so the shackle is straight.

I thought about that. Im not sure if im comfortable running 4 shims per shackle I would rather turn the spacers down that are already on there

I honestly don't think that this shackle thing is your issue the way you are describing. How bad is the rocking? Do you have to slow down to control it, or does speeding up straighten it out?

Maybe it is problem with your alignment causing the steering to bump and put you into a rocking motion.

x2, what springs are you runnign front AND rear? My runner does this, but im positive its because of the 4 leaf ruf and my 2 leaf with overload chev pack in the rear.

Soft springs cause that type of rocking. About the best cure for it is a sway bar.
