Vehicle theft insurance
« on: Feb 12, 2005, 02:41:16 AM »
Does anyone know of an insurance company that will insure our trucks for there additional value? I called virtually all the major companies and they said no, unless i was willing to pay 200 bucks a month! I know there must be a way, I even called a few companies twice and got different answers, as if they dont insure stuff like that. Most said up to $5,000 and after that the premium goes waaaaaay up. The only way i can see doing it is if you insure it as an off road recreational custom vehicle??? In which they must insure it, but Im assuming if you crash on raod you get nothing.

You can list it as a secondary driver which will lower your rates quit a bit usually and then crank the coverage way up using the lower base price to your advantage.

Maybe something like the antique car insurance? They insure for specialty vehicles.
That's how I roll

I've spent the better part of the last month going down this road.  No company I found period would insure my rig for what I got in it for less than an arm, a leg and my firstborn, plus wanting me to switch my other vehicles to them as well.  I have liability and a Grant security removeable steering wheel/locking steering column kit, a Python alarm and some other assorted goodies to deter thieves.  If they really want it, ain't nothing you can do, but I ain't giving it away.  I don't park it anywhere where it will have to sit for very long other than at work, and there is way too much traffic there for anyone to dare try and steal it...and everyone there knows it is mine.  :beerchug:

I figure in 5 years when it is an antique there will be some more options ...I hope.  :hammerhead:

Im gonna go with the grant steering wheel kit, makes sense and it keengs simple. You are right, if they want it they want it. Just got to be smart on where you park. (every time I have left a car with a bad feeling it came true!)

Personally I have NEVER carried "FULL" coverage on any vehicle I've had that was paid for. Take the difference in minimum coverage, and full coverage and throw it in a savings account. Odds are nothing will happen to it, and in a few years you'll have a nice wad of change to build a new rig.
Have "YOU" ever done somethin' stupid?........... Me either....

that is an interesting idea...i love paying $40 bucks a month for insurance in CA! I have been spending about 200 a month on parts, pretending its sort of a car payment. Makes paydays something to look foreward to.....well i guess anyone looks foreward to payday...unless married
