then I pressed the input (or front main shaft) bearing off

(flat side of bearing separator towards bearing)

the "gear spline" pieces can be pressed off,  so as to clean the splines between them... but that bearing splitter i bought wont work to get all of them off unless I grind it, and I figure since it's not like I waisted the counter shaft or anything it's not like there was a lot of metal flowing threw the oil, Figure I will just give it a good wash in some cleaner and call this part of the job good.

remove 5th gear detent ball and spring,
punch out roll pin
pull 5th gear shift rod

Remove the 12mm bolt holding the reverse idler shaft's locking tab.
Slide the idler shaft out and catch the reverse idler gear.

Next thing I did was start taking apart the top cover... this should almost be it's own section but... it's not that bad

I started with this 17mm bolt, and started taking apart all the detents, and interlock pins out

This detent is actually the detent for 3rd/4th gears

Next thing to come out is the 1st/2nd shift rod and fork
so I drove out the roll pin for the shift block, and used the shift fork to hammer out the next freeze plug

then i slid the shift rod back in it's home so i could remove the shift fork's roll pin and not put any weird stresses on the aluminum housing...

the reverse light switch stops you from putting the reverse gear shift rod all the way back in it's home to pound out the roll pin...
either take it out with a wrench or leave it...

I magnetized my 3/16" pin punch and extracted the Reverse detent ball
had to also use a hook to get the spring out
