Topic: I'm back in the Toyota game after many years

Well I have searched and searched with in 200 miles from home and the pickins are thin.  I finally ended up with a 85 std cab. 22r 5spd. Already having a little buyers remorse. But I have to keep telling myself, there is just flat out nothing out there. And the solid axle trucks are getting sooo hard to find.  I probably paid too much but it is what it is.   

The good: straight doors fenders cab and hood.  runs pretty good. trans feels good. Rancho lift springs at all four corners. useable front winch bumper. And a solid axle up front

The bad: No interior. rusted bed. worn out hinges. cracked shock towers. crappy paint job.

The plan: nothing extreme. mostly will be used for a farm truck/winter weather/occasional weekend wheeler.
Going to ditch the bed and build a flat bed, put a stock seat in it, probably a rubber floor mat, fix the frame, remove the 3" BL, get some 33" MT's, address a few mechanical issues, and paint it Flat tan.

Looks like that Dash isn't cracked  that's something.

I wish, It has plenty of cracks.  If I tell ya what I paid, You guys will swarm me with all the "..I know where a such and such is for $such and such...." I will tell you he was asking $1900 and I did not pay that much for it. Had him down to $1700 over the phone, but once I saw it, I didn't even give him that much either. I bought a stock bench and a new muffler for it today and will be cutting off the ratty glass pack asap. I'm going to cover the dash with plastic and give the inside and outside a good douching with my heated pressure washer. Then the BL comes out.

That's not that bad. Front axles are only getting more and more rare. While there's plenty of rear IFS axles to go around

No build thread. Don't know that I will have one. If I did, it would be ridiculously slow.  Went out today to work on the exhaust and it would not start. I think the key switch is fried and possibly something else. So that's obviously next on the list of to-do's

I've done a few things over the past couple months. It's slowly coming along.
New exhaust. I've since added a glasspack in front of the turbo muffler to take some rice out of the sound.



Cleaned up under the hood

bypassed the keyed ignition



Added some real gauges

took out the BL and bed in preparation for the flat bed and started on bed







Made some door panels to get me by for now

Did a redneck flex test on the trailer. Ranchos SUCK!




And bought some 89 rears and added some Mitzu leaves. Hope to get the money saved for hi steer soon so I can get them mounted

And that's where it's at. 

I'm currently battling a few more mechanical issues. So I'll have to work those out next.  I had bought some beat up 36" Iroks but sold them since I was steering off coarse.  36's would be too big for what I am trying to accomplish with this build. So I'm back in the market for 33's.

I plan to go duals at some point. IDK if I will ever put gears in it as the duals will likely suit my needs and give me more options over just going with gears.  The fate of my troublesome 22r/hybrid is in the balance. Just when I think I got it running great, some other bs surfaces.
