rear shackles

has anyone ever made any? i made some out of 3/8'' steel and the i got it for free :biggthumpup: from the welding shop at school i just want to kno if they would be strong enough or if i sould just buy some? :dunno:

The 3/8's plate is plenty strong, but overall strength and function depends on design and length.
An "H" pattern, will prevent the sides from twisting when making them longer than stock.


If you are unaware, you only gain half an inch of lift for every inch you make them longer than the stock length.

Dr.Maxwe001 – well i have a 15 gal compressor now and if I gett he 60  and then use the 15 as a reserve that wil give me 75 gal  thats close to 80 isnt it ?

I've done it with my Chevy...should be no problem with a lighter truck like a Toyota!  :gap:

i have made some shackles and mounts. i took a poly busing set i had to the metal yard and found the right sized tubing. then cut to width of the spring. we made gussets and all. it was for a sammy, but you could really do it with anything. i've had friends who made their own link-style shackles as well.

Those should be fine.  :thumbs:  You will surely want to add a brace in the middle somewhere to be sure they remain in a straight form.  :yesnod: :gap:

If being used with stock springs, you really don't want to go any longer than 8" overall length, anything more and you reall start to flatten out the springs.

Are you trying to resolve a sagging suspension or getting some lift?

A like bit more suspension travel I got longer shocks and mounts to put the axle I gotta get some 2x2 square tube so I can angle my shocks
