I have just 4.7s in my 4Runner and I think its just fine. It's fun to go slow in a competition or mass rocks where tire placement is critical but most of the time something just a bit lower than stock low range 1st is just right. I'm putting stock duals in my '80 and maybe 4.7s in the rear case later on...

What type of wheeling are you doing where lower gears are necessary in your opinion?

I run stock dual cases with 5:29s. never run into anything I think I would need lower for!

I have Marlin duels 2.28x4.7 and its usually more than low enough,,  I have only ran a few obstacles where i would of liked a little lower,,,(tight large boulder sections, and extreme off camber climbs with anywhere from 15-20ft drop offs,, I used the clutch when needed) Being that i wanted to go lower  :smack: dunno why,,, I built a triple case setup ready for my Xtra cab  :gap:,,, Running a R151F w/Marlins Total Spline 2.28 input, ending with 2.28x4.7XDx4.7XD on a Lefty T-Case with Marlins Chromoly 30spline F+R outputs...

Either inchworm or advanced adapters sells a 4.0 gear set. But you can't go wrong with the 2.28,4.7 set up :twocents:
