Just an idea, but i think it would be really great if some of the more experience mechanics on the board could compile some info for all of us idiots out here, kind of a troubleshooting guide for fixing the toyotas.  Not necessarily goin into huge detail, but mabye having a troubleshooting guide for common problems, like headgasket problems, cooling problems, gear slippage problems and so on.  Some of us have never had to deal with some of the things that come up, and when it happens, we have to get on the board and post up.  I have done this several times and always with great results, Thanks to all who have responded!!!  but it can take a few days to get the whole thing down.  It would be helpful to have some of the info already available, as I know some people as well as my self cannot afford to be without their daily driver/rig.  I know we have the tech sections, but those dont seem to have much information to offer as of right now

What do ya'll think, or am ijust blowin smoke around :dunno:

so it sounds like we need Mike or somebody to set this up for us huh??

I'm not thinking of anything too fancy, just something where a guy (or girl) can have a problem with their truck, and be aable to hop on the board and click on what it could be, and have a list of stuff to check for, and look for.  Then hey can go right back outside, and actually do the check, and see what the problem is.  Cause during the day, when people might be workin on their trucks when it is still light out, the board is pretty slow, so it might take a while to get some answers, and sometimes that is some valuable time.  we could have thew more experienced mechanics post up some checks and stufdf, and some tips, for headgasket, clutch, cooling system, and anything else anyone wants to post on

It's not very helpful  jus my   :twocents:

What is not very helpful? writups in general or the section.  IF you say the section linked earlier is not very helpful that is because not very many people have taken the time to write things up.  If you say that write up in general are not helpfull....well that sounds like a personnel problem

THat is what I am talking about.  The idea is great, but the actuality is it isnt that helpful at this time.  I'm not talking about something hugely in depth but something where someone can get an idea of what is wrong.

I will use my example.  I dont know a whole lot, and I knew something was wrong with my truck.  It was overheating and blowing white smoke.  thati s all i knew, and i didnt know what else to look for.  I logged on, and over the next few days, I was told to check under my oil cap for chocolatemilky foam, check for water in the oil, smell the exhaust, check the plugs for water burns.  I'm just thinking to have some of the more mechanically knowledgable guys, for example; White Trash, Glen, Reklund, Brandon, and Kneedownnate post up some symptoms for such things as clutch, gear slipping, headgasket, cooling problems, etc. Not necessarily engine specific, but across the years from 79-2005.  just something that someone can look at what they have with their truck, and then click on a post that gives them a god start.  The posts and writeups are great, but it is a PITA to find them sometimes, and if you post the question, it may take a while to get the answer, and for some people they dont have a lot of time.

I'm not saying that you all on the board have not been helpful, you guys have been awesome, have given me more encouragement than i could imagine, and kept me from despairing cause i am a broke college student who sees his only mode of transportation breaking and a huge cost to fix it.  I'm aslo not tryingto pick people out, or rope people into something they dont want to do, but those guys are ones who have been the some of the most helpful to me, and  from what I have seen helpful to everyone else.

sorry for the long story, just my  :twocents:

THANK YOU ALL!!!

I've never been a fan of putting tech into "years" or even make and model simply because even if I put a how to article up for my FORD V8 head gasket it would be VERY similiar to any other HG. Not exact but all engine tech for engine, all axle tech for axle, etc..

That's just my  :twocents:  but I really should pay more attention to good tech threads and try to file em into the right section here..

I'd like to add that the articles that are up on this site (I think Chris is putting them together) are very nice, you can't get enough of em..

One problem I forsee is; what works for me may not work for others, I might use a different rational than others and it may be confusing, as could it be if others post up troubleshooting specs.  I can already see somebody posting very confidently how to troubleshoot and fix something as a sticky and someone else popping on and sayin that won't work.  There are so many variables involved in this kind of thing.  I'm not sayin it wouldn't work, just that it would take collaboration from the truly knowledgable before a sticky is set up to make sure everyone is in agreence.  If my manual doesn't give me a good troubleshooting idea I call my brother who's usually very knowledgable, but if that's no help then it would be nice to have a quick way to find out here, cause like you when I need my truck fixed I need it fixed now!!      Nate
