Mig should work great and is simple.  I definately wouldn't waste the time with tig.  Obviously, fab up some frame plates to distribute the load when welding them on.  .02

So there's no point in trying to use a arc welder

Arc welder will work just fine as long as you are comfortable in using it to achieve satisfactory welds. Just be sure to choose a good rod and make sure the rod isn't old where the rod coating could be moist. Fresh dry rod will work best.

x2 on whatever you can create the best quality welds with. Make sure you can trust having quite a bit of your rig's weight sitting on them if you get hung up.

Weld with the best way you can, all 3 are arc welding.
