Do you think 4.30s high pinon gearset is worth the cost from toyota? Or just upgrade to a 4.56 when I order a grizzly equipped 8'' high pinon? I have 31s and down the road i might install some 32s.
If i do switch to 4.56 I will have to replace the rear with 4.56 oh well I guess.

I wouldn't spend the money on stock R&Ps.  You could probably find a used 4.30 or 4.56 third member but I would go with aftermarket 4.88s for that tire size.  Always better to err on the low side of gearing, even for highway use.  Ive ran 5.29s and 33s and loved it, off road, highway and all around.

I'm currently running the stock 4.37s in my '80 4x4 with 31s and the gearing is just about right.  Could probably go a bit lower but they came stock so I might as well run them.  I have ran 32s with the 4.37s and I think they are too tall, not low enough for anything over 31s.

Since it sounds like you already have 4.30's, I am guessing you have an auto trans.  If this is the case, you will want to run 4.88's with 31's.  With the 4-speed auto, you need one gear set taller than you would with the 5-spd.  If you have a 5-spd, the 4.88's would be a little tall with the 31's, but not enough to be detrimental at highway speed, with 32's it would be even better.  These Drivetrain Calculators will give you an idea of what your engine speed is now, and what it would be with the different gear/tire combo's you are considering.  Marlin's Transmission Gear Ratio Chart will give you the gear numbers.

If you swap to 4.56's or 4.88's for the front, you will have to swap the rears as well, otherwise you will bind up the drive train because the front wheels will be rotating at a different speed than the rears.

You can usually find oem 4.56 3rds for about $200-250, a little more for the oem 4.87 3rds, however, the oem 4.87 3rds aren't upgradeable to taller gears, so if you think you might go to 33's or bigger, best to just regear the 3rd you have now.  Also keep an eye out on Craigslist, or Pirate, often you can find used 3rds with gears and lockers for around $500.

I too would suggest sticking with a set of used, cheap, stock 4.30gears and then when you are ready to plunge, get a set of aftermarket 4.88's for 33" tires and also some lockers of some type, budget allowing.  IMO, it is not financially or performance improving feasible to spend the money to only jump one ratio down.

Thanks for the comments. I am ready to splurge when I get some cash, as my 85' is now my trail rig. My plan was to buy this grizzly locker high pinon all ready setup by marlincrawler,.

My truck seems to have plenty of power I woulndt think 1'' tire change would effect in much, which is why I thought the 4.56 gears would be fine. But if I ever wanted to go bigger, then 32'', if I ever 4.88s would be the better option. I also plan on swapping the auto to manual pretty soon. So that would help some. I will look at my rpms at the 4.88 application.
