Shock valving suggestions
« on: Feb 01, 2005, 03:41:55 AM »
Im gonna blow my tax return on some bilstein 5150 shocks (advance off road $99) And I want the smoothest possible valving for my 3" Skyjacker lift. Any ideas or a good explaination on the theory? I think the first number is compression, and the second rebound.

You have rauncho springs and you want smooth??  Your soooo screwed.  Id get them in the longest length available and buy/build shock hoops to suit.  And replace the rauncho springs. :reg:  Oh yea I have no idea on the valving.  :gap:
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

Opps! Skyjacker springs! its getting to be that time. yeah i just learned to weld, well always learning. Whatcha think, marlins hoops or some ford shock mounts. AOR off road has some crazy through the bed mount rail but with a mere 3" of lift that has gotta be overkill, and I still have to haul sofas and crap for my freinds

/\ the rear shocks.  you will want to get a stiffer valving to make up for the verticle shock mounting loss but you will still have enough control from the stiffer valving to make up for any lost dampening.  Skyjacker springs are by far better than rauncho but they still suck.  ShawnB still has them on the front of his truck and even with an arb bumper and a winch for added weight they dont do much.  Ill be building him some pretty trick springs and mounts in the near future.

In a /\ setup you can run a long shock without having to put them through your bed or have them hang below the axle to work right.
