Has anyone converted there stock A/C pump to become there onboard air?
I have a 3.0L and was wondering if someone could tell me how this is done.

Thanks

The sum of the parts would probably be worth the price of the kit. I made my own. i used a manifold block from Northern tool. Off of the block are pressure guage, blow off valve, ARB pressure switch & oil seperator. I used the original a/c hoses off of the pump. The intake to a filter. The exhaust through a one way valve to the manifold block. I used a compression fitting to mate the original exhaust hose to a sae fitting. I pulled the guts of the schraeder valve & hooked a drip oiler & hose to that fitting. I ran the out put to a large semi brake air tank that I picked up for 15 bucks. From there to a fitting at the rear bumper.

This is not to bad to do, but you loose your AC. Take the low side hose from the compressor and make a fitting for your air cleaner so you can get clean air to the compressor. Or just put an air filter on the low side hose. Then connect the high side hose to a small air tank on in my case the frame. Put a pressure switch on the tank and break the wire feeding the clutch. you may want to put an oil seporater on the discharge to catch any oil. Also you may need to check the oil in the compressor from time to time. This is best with R12 compressors as they use mineral oil or alkabenzine oil. R134 will use polyester oil that has an afinity for moisture causing the oil to get milky over time.

God luck and post up some pictures if you do it.

Just checked out the frontrange kit, and at the bottom it says there's no way to have this kit and a/c,  BS!  They're obviously not considering this community and all the thinkers/tinkerers here.  I know there are guys one here that hear "you can't do that" and do it just to prove them wrong, and if I weren't such a wiring dumby I'd do it.  I'm sure it'd be pretty easy to set up a second a/c pump for your onboard air and wire it seperate from the harness.  Who needs the smog pump anyway?  Me thinks me smells a challenge................ :psss:  Nate

If you want to use the AC compressor for compressed air you can't use it for AC un less you want to fill your tires with freon (refrigerant) and the EPA would eat your lunch for this.

You could put a second compressor on for C/A or just install a compressor pump.

I agree buy the kit.  A hand throttle makes filing tires take  half as long.

Haven't tried it yet, just gathering as much info for the parts before i do.
hopefully in a couple of weeks i will give it a go.
I have a death wobble problem with my truck right now that i am trying to correct first.

I totally agree that Willy is great and wise, but if you look at the second to last sentence in my post you'll see that I said basically the same thing about using a SECOND a/c comp for your air, just not in as great of detail.  Guess I shoulda been more specific so as not to confuse, cause I meant you keep your stock a/c in working order and install your other compressor below it and wire it seperate from the harness.  Sorry for any confusion,      Nate

Hey 03HDfatboy,
I did it a little over a year and a half ago, left alone on a ride to "hone my skills" on the tight corners cause I hate em.  I had paid for a track day at thunderhill for the next week and wanted to be more comfortable with the tight corners.  I went into a semi fast left and did a nice easy low side, slid off road and went through a fence out into a field, bike caught the dirt and tumbled end over end for 40yds.  I have a 1mm scar on my right thumb and a divet in my left calf but no other visibal problems, I had on full leathers, racing boots and my aria helmet, which saved my life(can you guess what brand I bought to replace it?).  I broke my right thumb, left leg and got a wicked concussion, but that's all.  Doc released me back to work within a week and a half and I was like "you remember I'm a mechanic and I hafta walk up and down 100+ stairs each day?", but at the quickie places they don't care too much.  I hit my head on a metal reflector post so I don't remember anything at all that day till early evening when I was standin in the driveway talkin to my roommate and he said "yea I know, you've already told me that a bunch of times!".  From what we could tell I was doing around 90-100mph.  My brother and I went out the next day to try and see if we could figure out what happened, and I couldn't find my nice sunglasses so I grabbed some cheapies.  When I was looking in the grass I found the remains of my arnettes :sad2: It took me 11 months to rebuild, mostly money/laziness issues, but it felt great to get back on two, and I did my track day a week or two later and got back up to speed within about 45 minutes of riding.  Sorry to get so wordy, there's a lot to it and I tried to condense it.  The pic I posted in "a women" thread is me standing where my bike first started flipping, trying to see where I went through the fence.  You can kinda see that my left leg's about twice the size of my right.  I have a nice pic of the post I hit my head on too...................Nate

I think the calmest I am in life is when I'm laid over in a fast turn on two wheels, the corners don't scare me I'm just not good at the really tight ones.  Five days later I went to the doc and found out stuff was broken, then when I got home I tried talkin my friend into lettin me ride his cbr929 on my track day since I couldn't shift with my left foot and his is set up for right side shift cause he's missin part of his left leg.  I've seen some messed up wrecks and people, but nothin to make me wanna stay off my bike yet, and hope I never want to.  When I did get the bike back together I was surprised at how comfortable I was even just pullin out the driveway, and felt totally fine with ridin again.  Hopefully you'll never wreck again, but if you do get back on asap, ride a friends bike if you hafta, that's what I did.  The sooner you get back on the sooner you realize how much you love it,     Nate

Anyway, sorry for the thread jack, now back to the compressor issue!!
