This is the place to post ANY cheap trick.
For example fliping the air boot thing that comes of the air filter container(does any body have the correct names) around so the air is drawn from the back of the engine compartment insted of right by the head light. Im not sure all the years you can do this but I think its atlest on 79-83s.

i know a cheap trick.

rear end vents.
go to a wrecking yard and get the barb fittings off of the in take manifolds on 22r's or 20r's for the brake assist hose.  they screw right in the old 8" axle housings on my 82.  then run fuel line way up high.  i stuffed the OEM breathers in the ends of the hoses too.

VW Bug fuel filter! :headshake:Yeah it works my buddys fuel filter was cloged so bad that fuel couldnt pass through. We called his dad, a VW mechanic, and he brought home a VW fuel filter. Now your wondering why not just get a TOYOTA fuel filter? Well these things cost under $.10 and you can see the fuel go through it. You can also see if its cloged if you instal right. IN<Out.

There is a cone shaped filter inside the clear can looking thing run the fuel against the cone (IN<OUT) so you can see if the filter is filling up with crap. Im not sure if it will work for every year but it will probaly work with more then just toys

There is an access panel for the wipers on the firewall. plumb intake air into it and draw cool air from there. Who needs a snorkel??

there is colder air next to the head light . the air in the back of the engine compartment is hot becaus there isn't any air flowing there and its by the exaust manifold.

one cheap trick is to use the rear rubber brake line in the front( one for each side) there male/female

Heres one also...pull the switch out for the power windows and run a jumper then you can power up and down without having the key in.
Another...splice into the rear window lines and put a switch in it so you can power up-down when you sleep in the back...mount the switch on the rear panel...4runner only.
Wait..1 more...fine your gas pump line under the pass door channel and splice a switch into that also...hide it and you can turn it off and the vehicle wont start without the pump...
Wait...1 more...splice a battery cut off switch between the battery and starter...key stylr...hide it...must have key in and turned to start...no key no start..
 Wait..1 more...extend your brake line when lifted..connect 2 lines together...works front (need a nipple 2ea) and rear
Wait...1 more...nissan, toy vaccum or 1/8" brass line nipple for your diff breathers...yup and a VW gas filter for the end..
 Wait....ok going to bed now.....LOL

An even cheaper trick is to use "used" VW filters for the end of the breather hoses.

pilot bearing removale.

thought of this when i was doing it last weekend.

use your clutch alignment tool and pack the cavity in the crank behind the pilot bearing with grease.
use the allignment tool tip and tap it in with a hammer.(not hard you don't want to wail on your crank.)  it will just push in easy at first but the cavity will eventualy fill with grease and you just tap and pack with grease and tap and so on.  the hydrolic force will push that bearing right out.

i have had some seals pop out on me,(on sealed bearings).  so it doesn't all ways work but for the most part it has.

For those of you that still have the carbed 22r.If your fuel pump ever fails you can get a few miles back home still.I had mine fail once so i drained my windsheild washer bottle of the water and filled it with fuel.Ran a washer hose to the bowl vent in the top of the carb and filled it as I drove from thw washer switch. Its slow and distance is not far but better than walking!
Forgiveness is between them and god..
Its my job to arrange the meeting!
