Trying to pick an antenna
« on: Apr 30, 2011, 01:50:05 AM »
so i got me a cobra 19 dx iv, i figured it would be good for the trails and it was cheap. I'm now looking for a good antenna but have no idea what to look for. I mainly only want it for the trails when i'm with my buddies and it will be mounted on a tire carrier. any suggestions?

Like Jim said, K40's are the best, but the firesticks are decent, and cheap.

i checked out the K40's online but i keep getting radar sensors.  ??? the fire sticks look like the no name brands at Fry's electronics. Is their anything that makes them unique?

K40's are better built, and the firesticks are just cheapo fiberglass antennas.
K40's have better tuning, are removable, have better windings for better RX/TX, and don't break as easy as the fiberglass.

wilson is way better than a k40 and "firesticks" are just as adjustable as wilsons or k40's there are alot of knock off of the firesticks if it doesnt say firestick dont get it, there adjustments are under the rubber cap on top. wilsons antennas have a stronger magnet than k40's and also handle way more power. i run a wilson 1000, mag mount and it hardly ever gets knocked off the k40s have a weak mag and are alway a problem. what ever antenna you get SWR it in. look at radio active radios website they sell only quality stuff there. or find a redmonkey (they are in california)location.

The one downside of the fiberglass style, is the fact that they break real easy when freezing out.  The fiberglass will shatter.

The thing is, how much do you want to put into a CB radio system?  The best antenna's I've ever used, is the good old bull whip, but, most people won't allow them on trail runs.  Due to their length.

I still have mine.     They make killer flag holders for the dunes.  Run a wire and a small light to the top for some night wheeling.

I dont care, Id run it anyways. I have a valid point, if they are concerned it will hit someone, then they need to realize that people are standing too close, time for a wake up call!
