Sequoia as a tow rig?
« on: Apr 24, 2011, 12:45:04 AM »
I would love to gat a Sequoia as a daily driver, but should I tow my 4,400 lb rig on a 2,200 lb trailer? I guess the model i am looking at is rated to tow 6,000, but has anyone towed slightly over the capacity? Is there enough torque? I could go with a Suburban od=r Yukon XL, but i want all Toyota!! I really like the 4 doors and instant bed in an SUV! :driving:
1994 Toyota P/U, Marlin Crawler SAS 4 inch with 85 axle, ARB's front and rear, 35" X-Terrains, Marlin Crawler rear bumper. Marlin crawler front stinger bumper.5.29's 4XInnovations Sliders, Warn 9.5cti

my woman uses a 03 sequoia with the v 8 4.7 a/t and tows her 86 sami buggy aprox weight of buggy is 3500 lbs and trailer of about a 1000 lbs with not a problem up ice house road and down ice house road just fine.  It makes it nice because there is a ton of room for the kids and all the gear.  Plenty of torque in those motors and braking power seems adequate too.

I have towed close to capacity with my dad's tundra, probably a little over and it is very sketchy. Towing with my silverado 2500hd is much nicer, and i get better mileage towing than he does. But i get worse empty.

Same deal here, my daughters Tundra was squirlly towing her Toybox behind it but the same exact trailer behind my Durango (similar to the Sequoia) did very nice. We feel it was the added rear weight of the Durango that made the difference. The Sequoia might just be the answer since it will have added rear weight. May want to add a trans cooler to help out.

I towed with my 2003 sequia limited 4x4. i towed a 2001 ext can tacoma v6 on 33s on a trailer with no problem only thing I would do is add some rear air bags to help distribute the weight and trailer breaks would be ideal. but other then that great power and ride. In stock form it is an awsome tow rig/daily driver/kid hauler.
