I was looking at the rear suspension of the toyota in the very first post on this thread.

Do any of you know what kinda setup that is?

It looks pretty cool with the shackle hung off some leaf spring on the frame instead of right on the frame.

Set-up is a "buggy leaf" Its half a leaf spring attached to the frame, then to the shackle. They work pretty good, I had them on an old rig but they Can have some goofy characteristics.  :twocents:

Here is a typical buggy setup.  I removed it after some hairraising downhills.

except if you run a buggy leaf with any kind of arch in it it will actually push you over forwards, not like a double shackle.

True.

Dual Shackles IMHO are better for all around driving.
but we all have our styles.

and to keep from unloading on downhills.... what do you do on a buggy leaf?
stiffer valved shocks or what?

How's that drive on the road? Not well I assume but.... I'd imagine the leaf would twist.

A center limiting strap will solve alot of that problem.  It will still allow each side to flex, but not both to unlaod at the same time.
Even better is a rear suck down winch.
You have a Jeep?  That's cute.... So does Barbi.

hmmm  thats kinda wierd   never seen a truck do that before.  although my buddies 95 tacoma is so light in the back after bobbing and dovetailing he can turn sharp around corners and lift the rear tire like a foot off the ground!  its kinda scary!  we about rolled it over in the neighborhood coming home one night.

i guess i wouldnt reccomend it.  i look at it this way, all the buggy leaf gains you is some sloppy down travel.  there comes a point where down travel doesnt really help because if your tire is hanging way down in a hole there is no weight on it so it wont get any traction anyways.  besides there are better ways to get your rear suspension to work better. just get some longer springs.  i run ford explorer springs on mine and like them alot.

no! i rolled my 85 on the road because they decided to unload at speed in a corner, uberly stoopid!!!
and mr punkin is right, they offer little or no benifits in the way of traction, purly for rti queens and high school kids that roll thier trucks into some ladys front yard
