I would have guessed more flex from a buggy style rear suspension.  :dunno:
1989 4Runner: Dual Ultimate (Inchworm front & Marlin 4.70 rear), Marlin Twin Stick, 1200-lb clutch, 4.88 R&P, Aussie Front, Detroit rear, 30-spline Longs, Long hub gears, ARP hub and knuckle studs & 35x12.50 Cooper STT PRO tires.  Marlin rear bumper & sliders.  FROR front bumper.  SAS with Alcan springs & Rancho 9000XL shocks.  Budbuilt Bolt-on traction bar.  Custom Interior Cage by Those Guys Rod and Customs.

In the very first picture it has some nice flex, but is that a broken shackle in the rear?

If you mean toy4x4ota's picture, that is a buggy leaf setup, and It might as well be broken.....

well maybe the buggy leaf is good for rockcrawling but for any high speed stuff I dont know but it seems to me that it would slap agaisnt the frame so hard, maybe breaking something eventually

whats better to run in the rear springs to get max flex, double shackles or one long shackle, I do some high speed stuff too if that even matters.

if you think that something is wrong with a buggy leaf then you wouldnt like a double shackle.  they both serve the same purpose, more droop. i ran double shackle for a little and i can say that the buggy leaf does slap the frame more than my shackle set up, but the buggy leaf out performed my double shackles.  for high speed stuff i would definitly stick one shackle :slap:, but we dont do any high speed driving.  you can build some sort of pin system to prevent the shackle or buggy leaf from pulling away from the frame.

OK, I know the buggy leaf has its place and all, But I can't stand the racket and un predictability. And I saw one on my friends truck fail badly.
To each his own, But I like my setup tight and quiet to an extent...And as reliable as possible...Oh and its my D.D. too, and I love to haul a*s.
The double shackle seems like It would have the same problems, But I have not experienced one....
I would go to coil springs or something to gain mass flex...

Hey, how do you do the pin system? A quick release double shackle would be really cool, then you have you'r road manners, and with the pull of a pin or something, you have a few inches more dropout. I could be into this for my up coming chebby spring swap...I must admit I dont really know how the double shackle is properly done either...

Yea I was wondering the same thing, just a pull of a pin and you got 4 more inches of travel, man imagine if everything was in pin form lol.

basically you can have two tabs coming down off each side fo the frame and on the out side of the shackle or leaf, drill holes in both tabs and use any sort of pin you want.  you could even put a tiny bumpstop on the bottom side of the frame for an even quiter ride. i was thinking about makind shackles and drilling a hole in the shackle so the pin would go through the shackle.
