I have a 22re 87 4runner, my engine is running rich, it is smoking and stinks of gasoline. Any ideas?

In order to help you need to provide more info... what have you tried replacing or checking to correct the situation so it can be narrowed down... do you have any engine codes? Bad O2 sensor? mileage? mods? Recent fixes?

170k miles, I took it to a mechanic and he said that one of the injectors were leaking or stuck open, he replaced the injector and it ran fine for about a week and then it started running rich again. I am not getting a check engine light or anything like that. No mods, everything is stock.

Sounds odd... if it ran fine after one injector was done, I would just get them all done and see what happens.. kinda silly not to just have all the injectors serviced while its torn apart.

That's kind of what I thought... I don't know, he said it was the only one that was not working properly...
