Ok this topic has been brought up alot but....

I might be able to recieve a 22re bored 30 over, just needs put back together and a timing chain for $50 bucks. Im not sure what year 22re block it is but will it bolt up to my L50 (depending on what year), will my Doug Thorley Tri-Y header work with it and what parts do i need? I Know that id need a: EFI Gas tank, electric fuel pump, cpu, harness, check engine light and that is all i know that id need. I get my license March 2nd and was hping that I could have it done by/before then. Oh, also will it bolt up to the existing 22r motor mounts? On the wiring harness did you use the whole thing or the cpu just for the EFI and thats it? For anyone that has done it, how long did it take you and about how much in extra parts did you have to buy and what were they? If you have some pics of it, could you take some and send em to me or something? Im new at Toyota and engines and stuff but I do have acess to people who know this stuff good. My other option is to do a 22r block, cam, 20r head and some other goodies on it. What would be better and easier?

Oh I did do a search for previous threads on this but if there is any out there that I missed and you have a link with info on it, Post it up if you could.

Thanks,
Chris

motor mounts will work and u will need a different header. different style ports

as for bolt up compatibility, think of it as a 20R or 22R with different manifolds.

Thanks Kyle22r and 86runner. Anyone eles think they could help me out here. I need to convince my mom and dad to actually let me get it. If I dont itd be a shame...

85 is when toyota changed block specs and changed heads.  So more than likely your header won't work, due to the port shape.  As for wiring, the earlier it is, the more wires that come in the harness.  From what I can tell, up through 88 the efi harness is run with the body harness.  Also, it enters the cab on the left hand side, meaning it has to run all the way back across the dash to the ecu.  No big deal, just alot of extra wire and alot more cleanup to remove unecessary wires.  89 and later have almost a stand alone harness for the efi, and it enters the cab on the passenger side, right above the ecu.  Nice and tidy,  meaning there are only a few wires (like fuel pump and power . . .etc.) that need to be run.
I believe you will need to get an efi throttle cable also.

Thanks Uncle Jesse. Info is good.

Anyone else have any ideas, pictures, or prices on what you paid for all of it?

I used a complete "rolled" 88 toyota 4x4,I swaped motor into my 83',Didnt have to run to the parts store for anything,Granted you have good motor mounts, belts, hoses, etc.I used the whole 88 harness,Had to swap a few Plugs,But that was for the easy stuff like marker lights and headlights,I used the dash and steering colum aswell,Everything went together with no major Casualties,Fired up 3rd rotation!
You will need to modify Airbox and find a new windshield washer/overflow location as thats were the air box needs to go.
As for header Mine came with a thorley already installed(Bonus)Make sure it will work,if not sell it buy a GOOD one.....GOOD LUCK!
ITS A GREAT PROJECT AND GOOD WAY TO LEARN THE INS AN OUTS OF YOUR RIG!
