whats difference in 2 pinion rear and 4 pinion rear axle

i have one from 87 turbo thinking about swapping into my 80 even though it is wider

4 Pinion is stronger. Make sure the gear's in the rear end are the same as your's. Good luck!

I believe that the 80 frame is narrower than the 87 so you may have to move the mounts

The diff itself has 4 pinion gears or spider gears instead of two. You can put a 4 pinion diff into either axle housing.
