just replaced my bifr last week and went on a winter run and everything was fine.... i was wheelin around my property today, and i was just going around a turn slowly then my steering bound up and POP.... and i blew a birf... i run a quicklock... im guessing this is part of the problem? oh and when i replace the birf by removing the whole knuckle, whats the eaisest way to keep those trinion bearings from moving so when i put the steering arm back on it isnt such a pregnant dog?

I thought the longfields weren't supposed to break?  I coulda sworn on their site they said they were still awaiting the first broken one,     Nate

There is a guy on PBB who has already broke 2 of the new cromo birfs.  He said he was doing stupid stuff and the inner cage right next to the splins cracked.  It didn't pop, the splines just cept slipping.  Bobby told him he had got the prototype ones wit hthe 4340 inner cage instead of the 300m.  The 300m is supposed to be stronger.  I haven't heard of anyone breaking those yet.

thats not one of the new chromo longfields.
its an old style ringed long.

gotrocks

they new cromo longs have a 30 spline inner and outer.  So no going to a 27 spline at the birf.  I talked to one of the guys at Longs and he told me that he runs a 302 in his yota and has not broken one yet. (of course he's trying to sell them but still.)

Mike D

well my camera won't work so no pics but the entire case was shattered and one ball bearing was broke into pieces

That's good to know, I was thinkin it was the newer ones, which I was hoping were nearly bulletproof,    Nate

i think the guy who broke a couple of them only managed to do it with 40" tires while doing a REVERSE DIG!  a lot of 60s would go kaboom under those circumstances...

Mike D

Just like that Derek but the entire cage was gone and it was broken with a stock rig

Kyle and I are talking about the same guy.  And Bobby replaced the broken ones with brand new ones for free.

About two weeks ago I was nose down in a tank trap,,1 rear tire in tha air,,1 rear tire barely on the ground,,would come off when I let out the clutch,,truck was resting on the front bumper and front tires,,reverse dig with throttle,,not even a peep,,Hell yea,,And that with the cromo 30spline inners and birfs..

The ringed longs are actually not as strong as the non ringed due to the balls will hit the ring and cause the bell to bust..
Forgiveness is between them and god..
Its my job to arrange the meeting!

DontStall Rockcrwl

tore my passenger side knuckle off to see the damage, broke the bell pretty good.... i think i found my problem though... its the shims... they were off horribly.. what do you guys run on top and bottom of knuckle?

Holy @#$% reverse digs with throttle and rear tires nearly off the ground! Is that with the Bobby's new 30 spliners? I've already started saving.
