I picked up a used universal Black Magic for cheap and thru it in my yota this weekend.  It sits too close to the motor and when I drove it the blades would hit when the motor torqued.  There's maybe .25-.50" of clearance in there.  One time the blade jammed up and the motor started to smoke  :shocking:

The truck is an 87 turbo.  I think I want to run something a bit narrower but has enough to be a primary fan.

Thanks

Flexalite model # 116 will cool it just fine and its about an inch thinner than a BM.

Stock fan may cool the engine fine when it works but when it stops working its expensive to fix.  The fan was always engaged.  Clutch didn't work right.  Stock shroud was broken.  So an electric fan with a shroud for $100 sound good to me.

I bought a Derale that moves 2200 cfm and has a shroud almost the same size as the rad fins and is about 3" thick for $100.  I already had a thermostat switch.

Can we get some part #'s for good electric fans other than the black magic?  I can't imagine spending $250 on a fan!!     :shocking:   I want an electric one though!!

I finished the install on my Derale "RAD" fan.  It moves some air.  I let it idle for 30 minutes yesturday and it keep the temp right where it should be.

ROAD Test info

I installed an autometer electronic water temp gauge at the same time for more accurate temp monitoring.

First off the truck runs great without the malfunctioning clutch fan.  Truck pulls 1st gear a lot better.  Butt Dyno says I picked up some good power,  I'm sure it's not much more than it would with a proper functioning clutch fan, but with the fan engaged all the time I was losing some power.

And the coolest part.  I can hear my engine and exhaust now!!!  :hahaha: Before all you could hear was the stupid fan.  Sounds sweet revving that little turbo motor to 6000rpm

Truck runs between 185-195 degrees.  The fan turns on at just over 190 and the temp comes right back down.  On short trips around town (less than 5 miles) I don't need to turn it on at all.  And at night when it's cold out the temp stays about the same without the fan.

My Cooling system info:
I'm running a stock temp T-stat, 1 gallon Prestone Long Life Coolant (new stuff that mixes with anything), 1 bottle Redline water wetter, the rest is distilled water.  My radiator is clean, had it rodded out when I did the motor less than 15k ago.  The trucks a turbo so it has the bigger rad.  I also run the factory oil cooler. Water pump is also new.
