I beleave they change from 85-87, 88 is it own and 89-95 don't quote me on it though. I know the 88 will not work but the others may with some mod/luck
If you see it, its for sale.

Well here is the scenerio a friend just had a local shop in my town do a taco body swap onto his 85 4runner frame now they cant seem to keep the truck running it wont stay ideling. They are telling him that the previous owner told the shop he put 89 injectors into the truck so the shop is saying that the resistance is the issue why the truck wont stay running. This may seem like the answer however it dont add up because when my friend bought this truck it was not running right is was spitting and sputtering etc he took it to a local toyota mechanic and he had it running awesome in no time. Before the body swap was started the 22re ran with no issues what so ever. So why it wont run properly now they cant figure out and they feel it the injectors or something along them lines. My guess its a lose wire or something simple and not the injectors and a resistance issue at all.

Sounds like they need to pull the harness and go through it with a volt/ohm meter, and check to see if there is a cracked or bad wire.  Check all the grounds, and what did they do for a dash?  Did they rewire it to the 85 wiring, or just use the dash wiring from the taco?  Could be causing feedback into the ECM.  Maybe it's time to take it back to the toyota mechanic.  :dunno:

Thats what I am trying to find out now if they hacked or chopped any wires etc. And as for going back to the toyota mechanic thats what will be happening real soon if they dont get it sorted. I think its a loose or broken wire also because it dont make sence how it ran excellent prior to the body swap but now they are saying is a resistance issue, I think they are over looking the simple things and digging in to deep so to speak....

Are all the ground straps secure?

There is a ground that mounts to the motor on the driver side behind the power steering pump
Back of the block off the head to the firewall
ground wire from block to battery
ground wire from battery to fenderwell

And is all of them good clean grounds?  Wires shouldn't be corroded and contacts sanded, including the metal on the firewall/fender.  I remade mine with some heavier gauge wire and good soldered ends.

85-87 are low impedance("type-C"), 88 are low impedance("type-E") and 89-95 are high impedance("type-F").  An 89 injector in an 85 ECU will cause running issues, although it does sound like there could be a wiring issue somewhere also.  The other possibility is that the high impedance 89 injectors have caused injector driver issues in the ECU.
