Parts interchange between years
« on: Feb 06, 2011, 04:38:15 PM »
Ok, I'm new to the toyota world and I'm working on fixing the little bit of issues my 1983 has.  What I'm needing/wanting to know is what years of rigs can I look at for parts?  Is it per area of the rig or the whole thing in general that will work from different years.  Yes I did search but couldn't find an answer.

79-83 have same parts.  Even the 2wd stuff are interchangeable.

So stuff from like 84 and up would take work to make work?

I'm pretty much for now at least sticking with the 22r thats in it.  It already has a Weber carb.  I'm more interested in drivetrain/interior/body parts and the like.

Your 83 will have a 22r and a 5 speed you will not be able to swap with the 20r 4 speeds since that would be downgrading. Some wiring will be different from year to year, axle housings, gear ratios, will also be different. They made a lot of changes 79 to 83 bringing the truck to what it became for the next decade. The body was pretty much the same 79 to 83. The drivetrain on an 83 is more akin to the second gens than the 1st.
