Ok I had to go home and look at it on my computer and not on my cheesy phone to see what he's talking about.
OK, so they could use some more overlap and a little more heat on a few sections of the front axle. I'm not gonna pretend to be a professional here, I've only taken a few classes in oxy acet. and arc welding.

But c'mon the uniformity is beautiful. Thats a patient, steady hand and a good eye. i dont see "craters"

Im just trying to give credit where it is due and those things are steady...I still say..Good Job!

Sorry to open this can of worms. I'm gonna stop in fear of this thread turing into the "Who has the best welds, HiJack"

It's mostly experience and repitition. You can get a cert in 10 weeks if you've got the cash. To me it doesn't mean much. The proof is in the pudding as they say. However there is a place for theory, gotta have the theory. But technique and repitition are big.

Experience and good practice, it's a skill and as with any skill it takes good practice.

I haven't had a weld break yet, so that's all I care about in the end. Is it uniform, did it penetrate.
I dunno, I guess I have a lot to learn

I agree with you,and I've never had a weld break. Nor did the shop I was at. So what that tell us.

Dont know when I'll be done with this thing. I'm waiting for a few estimates on some machined parts for my gas tank then maybe I can proceed. Mean while I'll I can do now is clean stuff and paint.

OH, since I did stretch the wheel base some, I made this frame extension.

TacoRunner I found something for you to do!

In that first pic where you posted the frame extensions you still have some gussetted tube that looks like used to be rock sliders. Clean that stuff up!

Rig's lookin' good bro, real good. Can't wait to see it on the trail

Btw I had to bring up the hi-lift comment, LOL.. it was eating at me. I keep racking my brain trying to think of a way that could stay in shape in case of a bump on a rock or something.

Maybe some type of reinforcement or hinged door. Although that would take away from the "cool factor"

i like the highlift. its cool to see something no ones done before. im a fan of that kind of stuff. as long as its probable weird stuff, pluss it goes really well with everything else you have going on your runner. its a feature a lot of people know you by. i remember seeing that similar pic years ago, back when your motor swap was un heard of.

pluss the whole suspension being one off. pretty cool to see a runner that still looks like a runner but pretty much is anything but generic.
