Ok here goes nothin,  First of all I have no electrical.  My damn truck won't even start or turn over.  Second of all, my truck keeps wanting to die on me when it does run.  Like when I try to come to a stop I have to keep giving it gas or it will die and it keeps shooting out black smoke and my exhaust is really strong, I have to put my head out the window sometimes so i'm not breathing in freakin exhaust.  Can anyone help? ???  ???  ???  ???

FATB0Y

well when it does start and wont stay runnin w/ the black smoke sounds like it jumped timing

First off, is it efi or carbed?  Did the problem start all of the sudden or did it progressively get worse?  The solution is in the details.

I have the same prob with the oscillation rpms, you either need to turn up ure idle with ure fast ide screw, you might have a vacuum leak, intake tear, or your egr might be loose :twocents:

It's carbed and it started all of a sudden.  It is timed perfectly 3 times by 3 very good people.

put a multimeter on the battery see if you have 12 volts (or less if the battery is low or dead)
#2 start the truck, or jump start
#3 truck running above an idle say 1200 rpm !( re test the battery see if you are getting 12-14 volts.
if not,  ( if the reading is the same as before)(you should see an increese in volts)  your altinator is shot.

if you get 12-14 volts you may have a bad battery cell. if you charge for 1/2 hour and truck wont restart under its own power then its your battery.

remember a truck will run off the alternator alone.
if the battery  is dead it will stay running after you jumpstart or even remove the negative cable off the battery , the truck will continue to run as long as alternator is good.
a bad alternator the eng will die imedeatly after disconect!

an engine will run on the battery until the battery drops to low in voltage, then die.
once you solve this we will move on to the smoke.

I have checked my battery and I have good volts but the problem is that I can't even get the truck started. (No Electircal at all)  It won't even turn over.

How are your grounds?  When I had another battery in my truck the negative post was just a bit smaller than standard.  I would have power to everything until I tried to start it, the load was too great and it would basically kill what little ground I had.  I put my good battery in it and the problem is solved.

:twocents: WT mabe right check your ground. A good way 2 check if you don't have a meter is 2 take a set of jumper cables take  the (-) one and put one end on the (-) post and the other end on the engine. Then check to see if you have any juice. If the ground is the problem it should start. good  :crossed:

check your ground wire itself to see if its rubbing on ur frame or ur exaust manifolds anywhere. my sister's truck kept shorting out on her then would just refuse to start because the insulation around her (-) battery cable had been rubbed off by the frame. for the really bad exaust problem take off ur headers then start ur engine to c if maybe u just have something stuck in ur exaust pipe

or worse case scenario is to use a 1/2"D x 16"long  braker bar, and put a socket on the bolt on your crank pulley try to turn your eng crank by hand (clockwise) and try to figgure out if you have main bearings trying to( seaze up) on you,

it should take a little effort to turn the eng, but you should n't have to use all your strength remember its sapposed to turn :)    maybe thats why your starter wont tern the eng over and you have smoke! bad rings, maybe ran to low on oil.  im just guessing here!

Thanks for the help I still don't know what the solution is.  Keep the comments coming!!

i had a 85 toy with 22R one time while working on the eng i removed the intake manifold and carb, under the carb,on the manifold  there was a small 1/2" tube this tube was totaly cloged with carbon it was so long ago i cant remember how to explaine its location to you, but i remeber it was kind of goldish in color seams like it was held on with bolts.
any way it was totaly cloged i dont know why or how but where it went on the manifod it was cloged as well, once i cleaned it the truck ranbetter. im not syaing this is any of the problem your having just somethig i saw.   any way lets keep plugging away at your well get it eventualy

Well fellas, I finally got my electrical fixed.  It was one wire, one freakin wire comin off the positive battery cable that is connected to the fuse box.  Replaced the wire and the problem was solved, all it took was some time and a Master Certified Mechanic.  And of course all the help I got from you guys.  Thanks a million, and now the bogging problem.
