T100 Brake Upgrade
« on: Jan 26, 2011, 08:49:39 PM »
For anybody interested in better brakes for their 4 cyl trucks. Upgrading to T100 calipers and rotors were a direct bolt on. Only mod is grinding the backing plates to fit the larger calipers. See pic.

The calipers are similar to regular V6 type except have a larger gap for a thicker rotor. I don't know if the pistons are larger in the T100 vs V6.

The rotors are the same diameter as the 4 cyl and V6 but thicker than both.

They cleared my cheapie 15" chrome modular wheels no problem.

I upgraded to a V6 master cyl.

My stock brakes were scary and I was unable to lock up any wheels. With this upgrade I could lock up all 4 wheels. I had the stock single diapragm booster and it still felt like non power brakes. I just upgraded to a dual diapragm booster and now my brakes are "put you through the windshield" good with very little pedal effort. HUGE difference.

Here's some pics.

i did this same swap out of curiosity one day i had a parts t100 and decieded that since it had zero miles on the calipers breaks and rotors i might as well try it and it worked perfect

i see he had IFS  so does that mean to fit these on a solid axle i'd either need the Sky spacer or mount the caliper on the outside of the knuckle??

not sure on that the t100 calipers are the same as ifs truck ones jus bigger so id immagine you would have to do what ever you do to get the ifs calipers on the sa to get the t100's on im curious tho how this works on the sa does the ifs hub swap make the axel wider so you dont have to run wheel spacers or ???

yea if you use the ifs hubs then you either have to run the sky spacer between the back of the hub and the brake rotor or you have to redrill the knuckle so the caliper is bolted to the outside of the knuckle ear instead of the inside.

I'm hoping this works on a SA because I'm getting closer to doing my SAS. Been eyeballing the Sky spacer.

The diameter is the same as the 4 cyl and V6. I had it all written down and don't know what I did with it.

The T100 thickness is about 1" and the V6 is approx. 7/8" I think the specs are listed in product details on Autozone's website.

I used 1995 T100 without ABS to look them up. I'm pretty sure the rotor diameter and thickness is listed. I did not find info on piston sizes however. Hope this helps.

i put some parts together today and made a jig of sorts to hold a knuckle in my vise.  I had 95 4runner front hubs calipers and rotors. If I use a 7/8 inch thick spacer I can bolt the rotor to the spacer then hub and run the calipers in the stock location BUT the caliper is moved out further so the rotor could be larger in diameter.  the V6 runner rotor is 291 mm, the land cruiser one Marlin sells is 302 but its not got the same offset or "height" if the rotor is laid flat on a table I need one 302 diameter and 65mm tall, 23-25 thick

there is the easier answer to running taco rotors... use T100 calipers!! no need to grind the inside of the caliper!!!! NICE!

i found the specs, the T100 and SR5 4runner of the same 1995 year model share the same brake rotors and calipers.

I don't know why some are different. I originally went to get some used brakes from a 94 V6 4Runner and it had the thinner rotors. The calipers had a different casting number too.

I think the ones I'm using have SW13 or S13 WB casting number. I wish I could find my notes.

Glen,

I hope you figure out how to make this work on your straight axle.

These work great on my IFS and I'd like to make them work on the 85 SA I'm putting together.
