Newbie Dual T-Case Question.
« on: Jan 19, 2011, 04:41:18 PM »
Hey guys, well I've done a few searches and can't find the right answer I'm looking for.

When having dual T-case will I get a lower gear ratio if I put the 4.7 gear in the crawl box rather than the T-case?

Is there pros and cons to putting the 4.7 in the front or the back?

Thanks,
JP

its the same gearing just in the front ratrher than the rear, its better to run it in the rear case, so your not putting extra torque on the input of the rear case. some like it in the front, but I think its best to keep it in the rear.........

I agree, it's best in the rear case. having two stock cases are slower that having a single case w/ 4.7, but if you have dual cases w/ 4.7 in the rear...it's even better.

but running both cases with 4.7s in each case is definitely overkill but run the 4.7s in the rear case and you'll be happy

and for daily driving if you put 4.7 in the front case you will be to low on the street.

Only if he puts the front case in low range.
High range will still be 1:1

That comment makes no sense...

you have the same ratio and gear selections if you have the 4.7 in the front and the 2.28 in the rear and vice versa, it's better in the rear so you dont put that much torque into the input of the rear case (inputs a known weak points)

well i was thinking if you did 4.7 in the front or only case your 4 high would be as if it were in 4 low all the time. then in 4 low you would be even lower.  So for daily driving it your gears would really low.  I could be wrong that is just how i imagined it working.  but i guess with dual cases you could just leave the front case and shift the rear, so if you were running 2 cases the final ratio would be the same no matter were you put the 4.7's.  If it was only one case with the 4.7 that is a different story. right?

High range is always a 1:1 ratio, regardless of what gears are in the tcase.
