Can someone that has done a rear disc conversion on a 1983 Truck or similar, did you swap out the master cylinder to the 1" bore, like a V6 MC?  Is this mandatory?  Also will this swap help out with the IFS Caliper swap, 4cyl calipers, not V6 swap.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for that info.  Lots of stuff to go over but I think I can get my brain work again.

Thanks

One last question, does it matter if the booster is from a truck with ABS or not?  I know the MC must be from a Truck or Runner without, just curious about the booster.

Thanks in advance.

Brandon

I used a $5 1 1/16" one from a toyota corolla at the PnP

100% bolt on and the corollo has disk brakes so as long as you take the proportioning valve too your good to go

What year of Corolla?  Was this the MC or the booster?  or both?  Can you post a pic of it, the boneyard that I have been finding these parts in has a few corollas around just need to find the right on.  Also they have an '80's supra there too, anything on that work for this swap?

Thanks

Brandon,

Didn't you use your old stock booster? I hear that some of the 2WD T100 (all non-ABS) master cylinders are 1-1/16" too.

the supra is the SAME as the tacoma (1"), the corolla is 1 1/16"

Just go look for a master cylinder with the same bolt pattern as yours (4 bolt), then go look, it will be labeled. Generally your looking for an aluminum one. I got a pic posted on this board.. somewhere..

I took only the MC, and the proportioning valve. Don't limit yourself to looking at trucks - same part much cheaper from a car ;)

Good info to know, I'll check it it out.

Thanks again for all the info.  Also it doesn't matter about the ABS, just got the email from Erik.

Thanks

Can someone tell me the difference between an ABS master cylinder and a non-ABS master cylinder?  I know that there is a "module" or pump of some kind associated with ABS as well as other sensors and the like, but what is the difference in the MC?

Thanks

Not exactly sure but it has to allow for the ABS system to bleed the hydraulic pressure off the brake slave cylinders/pistons when the wheels stop turning. As long as the wheels don't lock the pressure is kept steadily applied. Once they lock, for a few milliseconds, the pressure is released and the wheels begin to turn again. Since the operator still is pressing on the brake pedal, pressure is routed back to the system. And the cycle continues until the car is stopped or one takes their foot off the brake.

There has to be some difference in the MC. I presume excess fluid is ported back to the reservoir.

That makes sense.  Once again thanks for the clarification.  I guess I'm making this harder than it really is.
