74 vs 79 Frame

Would a 2wd 74' have the same frame as a 4wd 79?

I don't mean, year specific tabs or what not. Is the general frame the same size, shape and construction?

79 is a lil wider, and of course all the hangers for the 4wd stuff. Is this really even a question? start with a 84-95 2wd frame to keep it newer and lower, perferably a 89-95 would be your best bet. What body are you putting on it? Any way you look at it you will be building body mounts. Unless your putting a 74-78 truck on that frame or a 79-83 on that frame.

I found a 74' hilux complete with a busted 18r. Body is in good shape, but was wondering if the frame was weak or was going to be a pain to get to work with after market kits. I love the 74 body lines.

All of those, take the cab off the 74 2wd frame and put it on a newer 4x4 frame. I want to know the difference in the 79 4x4 frame and a 74 2wd frame would be. Minus the little changes and front suspension.

Like I said, body mounts are going to be way off. and getting things to line up. its a lil wider and longer then a 74.

Only good thing for Cali residents, if you find the 74 with decent Reg. then you have a smog exempt status.
