Need to get behind ac/heater control unit
« on: Nov 30, 2010, 09:11:19 PM »
I have a 1988 Toyota Pickup and I need to get behind the heater/ac control unit to fix something i knocked lose when installing my cd player and I cannot fix it with the limited view/reach up to the back side of the unit from below. Would the best way to access that area to take off the dash? If so what all do I have to unscrew etc. Thanks

I would just take the CD player out and see if you cant fix it there first.
If you cant get it there then i would start to tear my dash apart and i would probable take the whole thing out so i could have different options on how i was going to fix the problem.
If you can find a way to fix it before you completely tear your dash apart that works too.

Yeah thats how I jacked it up in the first place when I was working on the Stereo and now there isn't enough room so I cant fix it. That is why I'm asking what bolts are necessary to take off the dash to get back there so its easy to work on. Thanks

What exactly did you mess up? Just get a flashlight and start taking out screws that you think need to be taken out, and eventually you should be able to pull it out. It's pretty hard to tell you exactly what screws to take out.

If you have to take dash pad off, there is a few bolts that are pretty much impossible to properly remove. The worse one is behind passenger side vent. Just be careful unless you don't care about the dash pad or if you have an extra.

I did a body swap one time 88 V6 to an 85  4 Cyl. when I put the wiring harness in the second time I realized that I had put the V6 back in. I couldn't get it to run. Stupid me Had to pull every thing back out, and  do it again. I hate being partially stupid.
