Super swamper TrXus m/t's = new "old mtr's"?
« on: Oct 20, 2010, 06:51:55 AM »
I have heard a lot of good things about them, even people saying that they are better than the old style mtr's.  I like them for a few reasons: they are radials, about the same price as a 37 in mtr, and my favorite... They come in the 37x12.5r15 size!

Who's running them/has experience with them? What are the opinions?

I am thinking of using a set just for the great size. I've always been happy with 15s. I saw a set at out trials competition.  They worked great and had a pretty skinny tread patch for the size, which would be a plus for me. I've heard rave reviews for snow wheeling...

I also like the 15, but I have heard some good reasons to run 17 inch rims with 37 tires.  I currently have 35 Kevlars on 15 and love these tires!

Plus:  37x12.5-17 is more stable

Minus:  comparable 17s are substantially more expensive than 15s
17s are often a higher load rated tire than a comparable 15 = less flexible sidewall in a heavier tire

my dad has a set of 34" trxus on his mini.  they work really well and have a very strong sidewall.  He has thrashed those tires pretty hard without any failures.  The only problem I have seen on these tires is that they like to chunk out pretty bad.  I have seen at least three sets on friends rigs that after a couple years of mild wheeling and street driving, the treads start to break apart and rip off the tire in chunks.  IDK if anyone else has experianced this, but thats the only downfall I have discovered.

I was thinking of putting the truxs mud terrain on my next build. The 38.5x14.50r16 but am not sure if they measure out to a true 38? I know iroks kick ass but they suck on the road and irok radials are really expensive. Anymore info of anyone running these? Or if they measure true? Or close to true? My buddy had a 33x12.50 on his 4runner and he loved em. Buts that's the only one I know that has ever ran this tire.

My dad has abused the :pokinit: out of his sidewalls and never had a problem!  I'm actually amazed at how well they have held up

I personally never had a problem.  But at mcr this year i was asking someone how they liked them and he said he had problems with the sidewalls

Just ordered my 3rd set.
The first two were on my sami, BEST tire I have ever ran.
LTB, TSL R, MTR, BFG at/mt, ...   just a great all around tire.
I am building an 84 Xtra cab and I expect the same performance.
The big kicker is finding them right now (at least some sizes).
I ended up contacting Interco for help in locating mine (the guy still has 6 my size left).

The closest replacement that I know of for the BFG MT tires in terms of tread design and overall performance are the Firestone Destination MT.  Of course, there *are* better tires than these, but if you want a "replacement", there you go.
