I feel retarded but I cannot get the snap ring on the new main shaft for the adapter. Any tips? Anybody have the same problem?

Yeah! I had that for awhile.

This snap ring is nuts, it could bind an elephant I swear. Marlin's snap ring pliers??

good set of snap ring pliers.  i didn't have a good set when i did mine, so i used a pair of needle nose pliers and both hands.  it was a 2 man job for me :disturbed:

My 4Runner has 4.7s, but I really want duals in my '80 pickup.  Maybe next year.

Had the same problem. I was using a set of Klein snap ring pliers with the cheesy interchangeable pins. Finally took it to a tranny shop and had a guy pop it on with a set of Blue Point (Snap On) pliers. Good large snap ring pliers make it easy.
