Topic: 1988 3vze to 22re swap?

  Hey guys i am thinking about swapping a 22re setup into my 88 pickup that has a blown 3vze with a automatic trans. I don't want to run a 3vze agin since i have had zero luck with every one i have had. I have a complete 86 22re 5speed 4x4 truck with a broken frame that i would like to swap the drive train from and was wondering if i could keep the automatic trans when i do the swap? Also from the way it looks the frame in the v6 truck has diff motor mounts that would need fabricated to fit the 22re. I'm just wondering if anyone on here has dona a swap like this b4 and what kind of problems they ran into when they did it.  the main thing i would like to know is if the automatic from the v6 will work with the 22re?  Remember i have a entire truck that i am swapping the 22re from so i have anything i would need. Any info or input would be great.

Ok well i just did a little research and it looks like the engine harness and trans harness are all one on these trucks so i wouldn't be able to swap in my re harness and make the trans work since its a electronic trans. the 22re and 3vze trucks use the A340H trans. So that wouldn't be a problem so if i want to make the auto work i'm going to have to come up with a complete harness and pcm for a auto 22re i think. correct me if im wrong. So i guess now my question now is if i swap in the 5 speed trans and t case from my doner truck will the drive shafts and trans cross member work, and also i believe that all cabs have a cover over the spot for the shifters and spot for clutch pedal? heck if i go through all of that a may be better off re doing the spare 3vze i have. I think i just need some direction here cuz i don't know what i wana do

I know that the v6 auto is a larger trans than the 22re, so you would have to try and find a custom bell housing. Also I believe the wiring harness for the engine/trans is one harness. As for the crossmember and engine mounts I belive they are in a little bit different spot, but if you can use a torch and welder its a easy fix. For the clutch assembly, it should bolt in if you have all the parts. With the shifter I"m not sure if they have a punch out or not, you'll have to look under the carpet.

3.4 swap

Trust me if i had more cash to work with i would love to do a 3.4 swap but im kinda working on a tight budget of around 500 bucks anto get it up and running, thats why i wanted to swap the 22re in cuz i already have it. Does anyone know what the length of a A340h trans is on here with the t-case? im just kinda wondering if my rear shaft will work with a w56 trans/t case combo or if im gona have to find a shaft from a longbed or extended cab 5 speed truck?

Oopps i ment to ask what the length of a A340F trans with t case was? I belive that the A340f has a diffrent t case than the A340h so they would b diffrent.

I don’t think I’m familiar with this transmission, what year truck is it out of? Is it out of a first gen?
