Break Upgrade Choices???
« on: Oct 02, 2010, 09:56:47 AM »
I just put 39.5 Iroks on my 4runner, and the stock breaks will not cut it any more.  I was thinking about going with the vented rotors up front, FJ80 master cylider to start with, and then if that does not take care of it, then upgrading the rear breaks to the 86+ larger drum breaks, or the disc break conversion.  Is the extra 75 bucks worth it for the slotted front "High performance" rotors?  What other break combo's have you all had luck with?  Is the 86 larger drum break a bolt on conversion? thanks in advance.

Not sure if your rig has a dual diaphragm booster or not.  If it doesnt then that is the #1 thing you want to do.  Bigger calipers and rotors help but nothing close to this booster.

i did the complete brake upgrade dual res master adjustable p.valve vented rotors and a sky mfg rear disc conversion. this thing stops like a modern car now. i am heavy with an exo 2 winces and 4.3 although i only run 37 and that rotational force will be different than mine but in my research this was the best set up

I have the stock booster, which I am guessing is not the duel diaphram one.  What vehicle can I get a duel diaphram booster off of?  Is it a bolt on application?

Any of the v6 trucks and 4runners.  Also turbo trucks have them.  Like super said 89-94 v6 4runners are the most common.  You should be able to get one cheap.  The bolt patterns on pretty much all boosters are the same.  The only diffs ive messed with have been the length of studs which mainly has to do with 1st gen trucks.
