I know this has been beat to death many times, but what is everyones recomendation for a good set of tires?  I am looking for 35-37"s.  I got $400 for christmas to put toward tires, so I want to get the best all around tires.  THis is for my DD, but I want them to work off road as well.  I have MTRs right now, but I am hoping for something cheaper.

Post up.  and have a  :beerchug:  on me.

to be honest...400 bucks won't get you far in the tire world. the tires in the 35-37" flavor run about 160 apiece...at that is for cheap ones. my swampers are around 210 new.

i would look at used deals. as you know mtr's are awesome tires.

the irok might be a good tire...they are roughly 170 for a 36" bias. for radials they are over 200. don't know much about them.

what happened to dirtbags deal.

MTRs are the best bet for a daily driver. u can prolly pick up some iroks for less but they are a lot softer. i have like 17000 miles on my MTRS this year alone and they are a little more then half tread.

i've been thinking(think is the key word) of selling both sets of my tires and getting 1 set that rock for wheeling and have descent road mannors. don't know if this will happen...just thinking about it.

the only decent $400 tires sets i've seen are 33" mud kings or 34" LTBs

Merry Christmas everyone  :santa:

Coopers or Hercules, same tire, can be had for less than the mud kings, and they come with a great warranty.  Mine had a free unconditional replacement to half tread and then prorated after that.  I have around 34,000 miles on mine and they still have a pretty good amount of tread left, and I drive pretty damn hard in the corners.  They have a soft tread compound and soft sidewalls, but I've never had any sidewall problems.  I have a set of les schwabb 35s I might be willing to sell, and could send you a couple of pics if you want,   Nate

Sorry man, I know you already have em but MTR's here too.  They just plain rock for a DD/Rockcrawler.

For 400 billz, I would stick that money in a paypal acct. and buy you some ones used but good tires.

I dont know of any "GOOD" tires for 400 bucks in a 35 let alone a 37.

Good Luck Mang.

What about good places to buy tires?  I know of the big places like Les Schwab and American Tire Co.  Any other good places?  or online?

Folks in Sac, if you know of anywhere, let me know

My experience with retreads is limited to one flying off of the truck in front of me at 80mph on the freeway and almost going thru my brand new $800 custom intercooler on my Supra.  Like I said, I've never had any good luck with them.

Yeah I know.  I just was thinking what the tread of a 37 would do to you or your truck if it decided to fly off on the freeway.  :shocking:

Merry Christmas!

I was driving the team bus aboout 10 years ago when a recrap came apart, man was that fun the watch all the guys in the back of the bus jump up over the seats cuz they thought the tire was coming up though the floor!  woould not run them on my truck. :psss:
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

I (an ex les scwhabbie) highly do not recommend running retreads on your rock crawlers.  Do to the fact that heat is what kills retreads.  by lowering the air psi, below say 15 psi or less, will generate an incredible amount of heat.  Which in turn will cause the glue, that binds the tread to the casing, to soften, and allow the tread to come off.  As in the case of truck tires blowing up.  About 10% of the time a cap will come off due to improper vulcanization process, the other 90% is due to an object, ie nail, bolt, piece of metal, allowing air pressure to greatly drop.  Which in turn the tire will heat up to the point that you can burn your hand on it!  The more weight on a tire with less air causes flex, the more a tire flexs, the hotter it gets.  Next time your out on a long run with lower air pressure for greater traction control, get out and feel your tire.  That's why truck drivers are always thumping tires!! :smack:

that and running east on interstate 8 out of san diego with 80000lbs of green tomatoes, holding 80 mph or above all the way across AZ and finally slinging the caps off just befor the weight scales at NM state line because of the summer heat,  still had 95lbs of air in tires but caps were gone :smack:  my last trip :dunno:  after 9-11
