Was reversing on the trail, slid back and hit my rear bumper and didn't think anything of it as I've hit it harder than that before. Then, I get to camp and find this

Frame rails are not bent at all...

I could not believe this when I saw it, I have hit this bumper alot harder than this past wkend and no problems whatsoever. there must have been a defect in the metal or something, that's the only thing I can think of.

 :yikes:

Damn!! Thats wicked. Definitely going to be adding some reinforcements to mine just incase in that area. I always thought about it but it has held up great over the last 3 or so years so I never got around to it. Going to be adding that to the list of "to dos" asap.

how old is the bumper? if it is less than a year old, i think marlin might warranty it for defects. have you called them and talked to them?

Yeah, I think Marlin should do that on the rest of the bumpers they make....

No warranty, I ended up getting a Dave'z Offroad rear bumper, looks alot beefier with the support for the main bar and everything, worth the extra money IMO.

Personally, I think MC should re-design their bumper a bit...I hate to say it, but even TG's bumper looks beefier than theirs now that they have the side supports.

junya92toy

Well a good start would be to have tubing going from where the hitch is and angle back to the frame/ mounting brackets. After that it would prob take a car hitting you to bend it. With the 4runners, and only being able to only have the bumper be one tube across because of the back door, its going to be weak. Unless you want to lose ground clearance and make it 2 tubes across with tubing welding between them to build a "bridge"

Without any tubing between the 2 that got bent, the first bent then the other one did.

what is going on with the rear bumpers. I want one but now that i have the money they seem to be have issues with them. very uncool

gzdrummer

Jerry92toy- that's what I was meaning when I said to support them. If you look at Dave'z Offroad bumper, it is a lot beefier. It has braces between the two tubes, and it has a brace from the hitch going back:

I would recommend not going with a MC bumper, not only because they aren't making them right now, but imo they need to do some design upgrades to compete with the other tube bumpers out there.

junya92toy

Ya those other bumpers are how it should be done, its how I do it.

Ok why doesn't mc step up. I am local, and I want to support local business. Davez bumpers do look really nice though

It's not even worth it....I will never order another piece of MC armor. They should stick with transfer cases and transfer cases only.

Have you even talked to them at all about this?

They might want to look at it to see if there is a structural defect in the steel.  :dunno:

Yep, I was actually very dissapointed with the guy I talked to. All he said was that of course the bumper is going to fail when you put the weight of a truck on a small section like that. (he was looking at the pictures when we talked)...and that's all they said. I asked if they would do anything and he just simply said no.

Apparently they are too caught up in thinking their metal being superior that they think it's impossibly the metal's fault.

88_Pathy

I don't know who you talked to, but they are usually very helpful to me.  I guess you have to understand that they cannot just be replacing or repairing bumpers everytime they get bent or destroyed.  If your not happy with a production bumper then make one yourself to your specs, it will probably be your best bet IMO.  But, by the pics you needed to beef up the mounting points too because the plate mounts bent like tin foil.  Just seems like you hit a small object with a relatively high rate of speed I'd say fluke accident. Just make the next one stronger.

bojangles88

ya dude i bet you actually hit way harder than u have before it just felt like less because the bumper was absorbing the impact when it bends like that... and of coarse there not going to replace it because u bent it i cant believe u even called  :haha:

swapped89

IMO asking for this to be replaced is ridiculous. Of course its going to fail when wieght of the truck slams on a small portion of the tube. Its just tube after all. Not solid rods of titanium or somethinng. :gap:
It looks to me like it saved a good amount of your sheet metal.

But, on the other hand... It did its job. lol  If you think the other bumpers are beefier then go with those.  I would opt to build my own after that carnage.

NITE KRAWLERS

Wow that is bent alright!! My uncles same bumper on his runner bent all to crap to. but it was at the part by the taillights, that loop that goes up..Maybe they should look at a new design or stronger metal!!
