Hey guys i havent been on in a while. Any ways ill be turning 21   and I am going into my last year of welding school. I have lived in MT my whole life, love it, but want to experience something new now that ill be done with school. A couple friends of mine are moving to klamath next year for college and Im really interested in heading that way with them especially after reading alot about the area and the seasons (very close to Mt. Bachelor for snowboarding, and 4x4 trials!!) My main concern is a job. Can anybody tell me what the Fab shop/welding industry is like in that town/area. I love welding and want to persue my career. Thanks in advance!!

Oregons economy sucks. If I was you I'd look in to moving to texas or north dakota if you are cert. to weld on gas pipes they will hire you in a heart beat to work on oil rigs welding pipe lots of $$$. Just my .02 k-falls is pretty cool though.

I am certified and will be getting a few more certs this year. I have had some buddies go to eastern montana/N.Dakota for pipe welding and as boiler makers and its just not what im into. I dont want to run beads all day. Im more into fabrication. Ive been thinkin of movin to Seattle area and workin in ship yards but a high paying job isnt what im lookin for right off the bad. Experience and know how is what i need and what will get me farther in the long run. I hear the klamath/Bend area is pretty f**kin sick tho. I dont know how long i could live with out mountains after living in Centeral/western montana my whole life.

yeah there is tons of mountains in k falls. Bend is ok, kinda weird there. But being in k falls you will also be close to mt. ashland which is like 100x better then bachelor In my opinion.

smaller mountain i take it? Thats deffinatly what im into. Less crowds, better snow, and more riding! Montana has a few big wig resorts which are nice everyonce in a while but id still rather go to a mtn that still has slow speed double chairs and less hippies haha. Maybe ill try getting over there for spring break or something to check things out a little more. I just want some insight for now.

In this economy, I'd take anything you can get right now.  If the only place that is hiring is boilers and oil pipes, take it.  And just keep your eyes and ears open for your dream job.

Should look into Portland/Vancouver too!  Close to Mt. Hood, and Tillamook State Forest.  Alot better odds at a job, instead of K Falls.  And you'll hate K Falls in the summer.  The smog is horrible.  Don't really look at Bend.  It used to be a hot spot, but it is dying out worst than any other town in Oregon.  A couple buddies got jobs there only because they were very specialized in a engineer trade.
