I have one from an 81 L50.  Are you referring to the clips that hold on the throwout bearing?

I was also confused on what clips you needed.  The fork itself doesnt have clips.  Hopefully you got the good clips which wrap around the fork prongs.  The ones you get with most new clutch kits just light slip over the fork and are just U shaped.

on the backside of the fork there is a clip that clips on to the pivot ball. one of the prongs on the clip was broken. i did buy new spring clips that hold the throw out bearing as well and yes they are the ones that wrap around the fork prongs.
