v6 dual set up
« on: Jul 14, 2010, 09:33:39 PM »
Ok so I know i need a crawl box with an adapter to mate it to the transmission and another to mate it to the front of the stock chain drive case. For the lowest option am i gonna want to put 4:7 gearing in the crawl box? What else will i need to complete this install?

why do you want to keep the chain drive tcase?  just wondering.
if your planning on doing 4.7's, its a better idea to put them in the rear case and not the crawl box, that way you keep the torque transfer set up right.

The better route would be to get rid of that chain case entirely. Crawler gears in the front case is just beggin to break the 2nd case input.

I've got 2 forward shift tcases i'll let you have for waaaaaaaaaay cheap if your interested. Convert em to top shift, drop the 4.7's into one and you're in business.

pm'ed about cases.  so if i get those from you and make them top shift i will then need a v6 tranny adapter, and the adaper for between the cases(mc08 right?). What else do i need on top of that?

All you'll need is that v6 adapter for the v6 tranny to the 4cyl crawl box. Then the dual adapter like you said (mc08). Then it would be a good idea to get a dual t-case crossmember. And you will have to lengthin the front driveline and shorten the rear driveline. And if you want the speedo to work you will need a speedo cable extension. I'm pretty sure marlin sells everything you need except the drivelines. :)
I have the same setup in my truck. 3.0 v6 to v6 adapter to crawl box to mc08 to rear t-case with 4.7s. Happy wheelin :gap:

and the v6 tranny has a 23 spline output. I'd say it's a good idea to keep with the 23 spline so you will need to get 23 spline input gears too. One for the crawl box and one for the rear t-case And make sure your dual adapter is a 23 spline unit also.

It adds up fast when your dualing a v6. There might be adapters to go from the 23 spline tranny output to a 21 spline crawl box but I have not looked into those :dunno:

I tried goin cheap on mine just to end up having them professionally built and balanced at driveline tech in Gresham Oregon. If you wanna go over 20 mph in 4wd and hate vibration I'd just spend the money and have some professional shop build them.   :twocents:

but I did first make my own front driveline using a do it yourself kit like marlins long slip, and then welded a stock ifs cv to the end of that. It's best to clearance the cv for better angle but I didn't know how to do that and never looked into it.
Never tried a cheap rear DL though. I just hate vibration and noises.

In the end I spent about 600-650$ I think on drivelines at driveline tech.

So i will need a set of 23 spline 2.28 input gears for the crawl box and then I will be set on the rear case since i will be dropping some 23 spline 4.7's into it?

If you have a decent welder and a drive shaft you need to shorten let me know. I am gonna be heading up there next week to tear out some stuff from my ole mans house in squaw.  They are gonna demo it and build a sweet custom house in its place. I just built my rear driveline last week and I get a very small amount vibes at 2100 rpm which is fine since I havent taken it in to get balanced yet.
On the V6 adapter there is guy local to me who had a brand new one for sale a little while back and I am sure he still has it. Also since you have a v6 and seems like your planning on running 35's I wouldnt bother with the 4.7s. With dual stock cases and that v6 your gonna crawl just fine. I must have missed the post bout your bent frame tho. Get her done before MCR.

The duals will be saved for this winter due to other things like bent frame, and power steering pump.
and the bent frame is coming up in my build thread. The truck is actually a lot farther along im just posting the pictures of the progress as i find them.
